IOActive’s Ryan O'Horo to Present at BSidesDFW

IOActive’s Security Consultant to present PenTesting People: Social Engineering Integration

Seattle, Wash—September 27, 2011. IOActive, a leading provider of application security, compliance, and smart grid security services, today announced that Ryan O'Horo, one of their Security Consultants, will present PenTesting People: Social Engineering Integration at BSidesDFW. Each BSides is a community-driven framework that facilitates building events intended for and put on by information security community members. The goal is to expand the spectrum of conversation beyond the traditional confines of space and time, creating opportunities for people to both present and participate in an intimate atmosphere that encourages collaboration. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and participant interaction—a place where conversations about the Next Big Thing are happening.

O'Horo will review the psychology of a social engineering attack and the unfortunate truth of how unprepared companies can be to repel them. The security approach most companies follow rarely includes accounting for the most critical element of any infrastructure: its employees. The numbers don't lie—targeted social engineering attacks are extremely effective, and simple steps can be taken to immediately and consistently reduce their threat. O'Horo will present case studies, outline the most commonly overlooked mistakes, and present strategies for running test cases as part of a regular security audit.
