IOActive’s Ryan O'Horo to Present at BSidesCT
IOActive’s Security Consultant to present PenTesting People: Social Engineering Integration
Seattle, Wash—June 6, 2011. IOActive, a leading provider of application security, compliance, and smart grid security services, today announced that Ryan O'Horo, one of their security consultants, will present PenTesting People: Social Engineering Integration at BSidesCT. Each BSides is a community-driven framework that builds events for and by information security community members. The goal is to expand the spectrum of conversation beyond the traditional confines of space and time. These conferences create the opportunity for individuals to present and participate in an intimate atmosphere that encourages collaboration. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants—a place where converations about the next big thing are happening.
Ryan O'Horo will review the psychology of a social engineering attack and the unfortunate truth of how unprepared companies can be to prevent them. The security approach that most companies follow rarely includes attention to and training of their most critical element: its employees. The numbers don't lie; targeted social engineering attacks are extremely effective and simple steps can be taken to immediately and consistently reduce their threat. O'Horo will present case studies, outline the most commonly overlooked mistakes, and present strategies for running test cases as part of a regular security audit.
