IOActive’s Scott Dunlop to Present at Recon 2011

IOActive’s Senior Security Consultant to unveil AndBug, a scriptable open source debugger

Seattle, Wash—May 17, 2011. IOActive, a leading provider of application security, compliance, and smart grid security services, today announced that Scott Dunlop, one of their Senior Security Consultants, will present AndBug: A Scriptable Debugger for Android's Dalvik Virtual Machine at REcon 2011. Recon is a computer security conference that focuses on reverse engineering and advanced exploitation techniques. The conference, one of Canada's premier security events, offers a single track of presentations over the span of three days along with technical training sessions held before and after the presentation dates.

"Recon, held annually in Montreal, is the only security conference with a focus on reverse engineering. It's three days of highly technical content, no fluff, and it's held during the summer, in downtown Montreal. No wonder everyone always wants to come back," said David Mirza, co-organizer for Recon.

Dunlop will unveil AndBug, which targets Dalvik applications and is intended for use by reverse engineers when writing breakpoints that can trace and change process flow. AndBug leverages the Dalvik Virtual Machine, ADB, and the Java Debug Wire protocol so that developers and reverse engineers can write scripts that trace and modify Android processes on the fly. AndBug promises to improve the understanding of the Android platform and its associated customer applications.
